This is interesting. It confirms that my surname is indeed of German origin, but today Twerdys are mostly found in Austria and Canada, where they still remain very rare: three in a million in Austria, two in a million in Canada. Only .21 per million in Germany. And that is apparently it, aside from a few individuals in the USA. Which leads me to believe that there may be less than a hundred Twerdys in the entire world.

My name (Gibson) is, surprise surprise, EXTREMELY common in all English speaking former British colonies and even registers in Argentina, India and Japan. For cities, it’s most concentrated in Belfast, North Ireland but for whole countries, Australia has the most (1158 per million.) I guess that means my ancestors were a lot of fast breeding criminals. That’s kind of awesome. I wish this thing would give a stat about how common your name is compared to other names worldwide.

This is awesome! My name is most common in Slovenia and then the US. I was not really expecting Slovenia, but now I am really intrigued.

Also intriguing is that it says the subgroup is Italian (?!?). Also, top city for my last name - CHICAGO.

my last name is most prevalent in nova scotia??  we exist almost exclusively in mississippi, arkansas, tennessee AND ontario and nova scotia.  totally fascinating.

Mine is most prevalent in the US then the UK, which isn’t too much of a surprise I guess, seeing as it’s a Westernized version of a German (I think) name.  The odd part is the States: Maryland, Kentucky, Utah, Ohio (My family IS from there), and Maine.  Top city is Leeds, followed by Cleveland (once again, family IS from there)…  Also one of the top forenames is my grandfather’s name…huh
